Hundreds of displaced Iraqis return from Syria

Iraqis who had fled Mosul to Syria have started to return home after their city was liberated from the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS), the Ministry of Migration and Displacement said Thursday (October 12th).

About 1,250 Ninawa residents who were staying at al-Hawl refugee camp in Syria’s al-Hasakeh have returned home, said Khaled al-Obaidi, the ministry's official in Ninawa province.

"The displaced have been transferred to a camp in southern Mosul to check their identity documents before allowing them back into their areas in Ninawa," he said.

Their return is done in co-ordination with the UN, he added.
