The Iraqi government's security plan for Muharram in Baghdad has been successful, the Baghdad Operations Command said Monday (October 2nd).
Nearly 20 vehicles packed with explosives were seized before they could enter the capital and target citizens celebrating Ashura, the command said in a statement.
"Nineteen vehicles packed with explosives were prevented from entering Baghdad, and a terrorist with four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and guided rockets in his possession has been arrested," the statement said.
Additionally, three suicide bombers who were planning to blow themselves up among religious visitors in Baghdad were killed before they left their base in al-Karma, south-west of Baghdad, in a pre-emptive operation, it said.
