Suspect arrested while planting IED in Baghdad

Iraqi police arrested a man as he attempted to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) in a residential neighbourhood in northern Baghdad, an Iraqi official said on Thursday (September 14th).

"A terrorist tried to plant a locally-made IED near an officer’s home in al-Qahera neighbourhood," Baghdad police spokesman Col. Mushtaq Mohammed told Diyaruna.

"The man entered al-Qahera on a motorcycle and was in the process of planting the IED on the side of the road opposite the home of a security officer when the security forces suspected him," Mohammed said.

The area was cordoned off and the suspect arrested, he said, noting that the IED was dismantled.

"The defendant, who admitted to carrying out similar crimes in the past, was taken to a security detention facility for further questioning," he said.
