Iraqi forces target ISIS pockets around Tal Afar

Iraqi forces have killed at least 50 "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements in operations to clear remaining fighters from the area around Tal Afar, Iraq's Joint Operations Command said Tuesday (September 5th).

“Army forces, supported by the international coalition, have clashed with terrorist pockets around Tal Afar and al-Ayadhiyah," command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

“At least 50 terrorists have been killed and weapons, vehicles and ammunition in their possession have been seized,” he said, adding that Iraqi forces are currently combing the farms and desert area around Tal Afar.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on August 31st announced Iraqi forces had fully retaken the city of Tal Afar and the surrounding region from ISIS.
