Iraqi forces retake al-Borsa near Mosul's Old City

Iraqi forces have retaken al-Borsa area near Mosul's Old City from the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS), Iraq's Joint Operations Command said Monday (June 12th).

"Counter-Terrorism Service and army units have fully retaken al-Borsa and inflicted heavy losses on ISIS," command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul said.

"Retaking al-Borsa has helped our forces advance towards Halab and al-Tayeb streets in the Old City, amid clear retreat by ISIS terrorists," he told Diyaruna.

Dozens of families have been evacuated to safe areas, he said, and "at least 20 terrorists have been killed in today's battles".

On Saturday, Iraqi forces recaptured al-Zanjili district, leaving ISIS with only the district of al-Shefaa, before reaching its strategic stronghold in the Old City neighbourhood.
