Iraqi forces thwart several suicide attacks in western Anbar

Security forces in Anbar foiled an attempt by five suicide bombers to detonate their explosives in the city of Haditha on Tuesday (May 16th), a senior official told Diyaruna.

"Five Iraqi suicide bombers managed to sneak into al-Teen neighbourhood in Haditha on Monday night, but residents informed the security forces about them," Anbar operations commander Maj. Gen. Mahmoud al-Falahi said.

The security forces besieged and engaged them for more than one hour after they barricaded themselves inside a building, al-Falahi said.

"Three of the suicide bombers were killed, while the other two blew themselves up inside the building without causing any losses," he added.

"Security and military enforcements have been deployed to comb a number of suspect areas as a precaution against other suicide bombers who might have infiltrated through the western desert into Anbar," he said.
