An operation launched last week by Iraqi forces to crack down on "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) sleeper cells and pockets in al-Tarmiya, north of Baghdad, has ended, the Baghdad Operations Command said Monday (April 17th).
The operation, launched in the town of al-Tarmiya in Salaheddine province, ran for eight days and resulted in the death of two suicide bombers and the dismantling of several bombs, Baghdad operations commander Lt. Gen. al-Jalil al-Rubaiey said in a statement.
"Iraqi forces blew up 32 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and destroyed seven ISIL boats and a number of the group’s headquarters," he said.
"Twenty-six anti-armour bombs, 148 mortars and 10 ISIL resting houses have been seized in the operation," he said, adding that security forces also seized 16 containers of C-4 explosive, eight Katyusha rockets, five communications devices and 11 detonators.
