Syrian ISIL member sentenced to death in Iraq

The central criminal court in Baghdad on Tuesday (January 31st) issued a death sentence against a Syrian national convicted of transferring money from European, African and Arab countries to the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL).

"The court has heard a case against a defendant of Syrian nationality who has been captured in an air landing operation near the Iraqi-Syrian border," Supreme Judicial Council spokesman Abdul Sattar Bayraqdar said in a statement.

"All the evidence was sufficient to convict the defendant" who was receiving money transfers from European, African and Arab countries and then sending them to ISIL, he said, adding that he was sentenced to death according to Article IV of the anti-terrorism law.
