Car bombs kill 23 in former ISIL-held town near Mosul

A triple car bombing in a market killed at least 23 people Thursday (December 22nd) in a town recently retaken from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) near Mosul, AFP reported.

"A terrorist attack in the form of three car bombs at a market in Gogjali killed 15 civilians and eight police," a co-ordination centre for Iraqi forces battling ISIL said in a statement.

ISIL claimed the attack, which the group said was carried out by three suicide bombers.

Gogjali, a few kilometres east of Mosul, was retaken by Iraqi forces on November 1st.
