Iraqi forces destroy secret ISIL tunnel in Fallujah

Joint Iraqi forces acting on tips from local residents have destroyed a secret tunnel that the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) was using as sleeping quarters and weapons cache in Fallujah, the Anbar police command said Monday (November 28th).

"Joint forces destroyed an 800-metre long secret tunnel south of Fallujah on the outskirts of al-Shohada neighbourhood, which contained rooms and resting areas for ISIL elements," Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij told Diyaruna.

The tunnel also contained weapons, rockets, explosive vests and various explosives, he said.

After Iraqi forces seized the weapons, he said, "they destroyed the tunnel in full as there were indications that ISIL elements sought shelter there from time to time".
