A member of Syria's opposition government was among at least 12 people killed in a Thursday (September 22nd) car bomb attack claimed by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), AFP reported.
ISIL claimed the attack in a statement on social media.
According to the National Coalition for Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces, the attack targeted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a police station in Inkhil, in the southern province of Daraa.
"Twelve people, including the (opposition) provisional government's local administration minister, Yaacoub al-Ammar, were killed" and dozens more were wounded, said Syrian National Coalition spokesman Shadi al-Jundi.
The victims included opposition figures, opposition fighters and local officials, al-Jundi said.
The provisional government was formed in late 2013 and manages institutions in some opposition-held parts of Syria.
