Joint forces liberate Jubbah in western Anbar

Iraqi forces and allied tribesmen liberated the town of Jubbah and nearby al-Qatniya village in Anbar province from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Friday (September 23rd).

"Iraqi forces at dawn on Friday entered Jubbah and al-Qatniya village, 40 kilometres west of Heet, and raised the Iraqi flag on the town's ancient lighthouse," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

"The bodies of ISIL elements were scattered in the streets after they sustained heavy losses during the surprise operation," Rasul said.

The operation was supported by international coalition fighter jets and tribal fighters, he said, adding that the remaining ISIL elements fled towards the al-Qaim desert region in the province.
