Airstrikes kill scores in Syria's Idlib and Aleppo

A barrage of airstrikes on opposition-held areas in Syria killed scores of people in the key northern cities of Idlib and Aleppo, AFP reported Saturday (September 10th).

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 58 people were killed in raids on various parts of Idlib city, including a market, but it was not immediately clear who carried out the strikes.

The toll included 13 women and 13 children, the Observatory said.

Another 12 civilians were killed in unidentified strikes on several parts of Aleppo city, and 18 people died in bombardment of other parts of Aleppo province, the Observatory said.

Dozens more were wounded in the strikes, the Observatory added, warning that the death toll could rise even further.

"People were shopping before Eid al-Adha next week, which is why the toll is so high," said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.
