Iraqi forces kill 11 ISIL fighters near al-Sharqat

Iraqi forces killed 11 "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) gunmen in battles near al-Sharqat in Salaheddine province, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Thursday (August 18th).

“During a routine combing operation, an army force came under attack from ISIL terrorists who came from the Hamrin Mountains. A battle raged for several hours before all 11 attackers, including three Asian nationals, were killed,” ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

“A number of soldiers sustained light injuries in the battles,” he said.

“ISIL vehicles were destroyed and weapons, including medium weapons, RPGs and hand grenades, were seized in the battles,” he said.
