2 civilians killed in south Baghdad blast

Two civilians were killed and six were wounded early Tuesday (August 16th) in an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) at an outdoor market in southern Baghdad, the Iraqi police in Baghdad said.

“An IED planted by terrorists near an outdoor market in al-Amel neighbourhood, southern Baghdad, exploded at 7 a.m., targeting a group of local residents," Lt. Col. Jassim Mohammed Ali of Baghdad police, al-Karkh, told Diyaruna.

Two civilians were killed in the blast and six others were wounded, he said.

“The blast carries clear terrorist fingerprints and was carried out using a home-made IED that was blown up using a remote control device,” Ali said.

“The police have opened an investigation into the attack,” he said.
