Resistance builds up against ISIL in Mosul

Popular resistance is building up against the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) in Mosul, Iraqi Ministry of Defence spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul said Thursday (August 11th).

The resistance has been led by young men and various local groups in town, Rasul told Diyaruna.

“The resistance included attacks on checkpoints, monitoring of ISIL elements in town, and various attacks, including knife and gun attacks targeting ISIL elements and foot patrols,” he said.

“Many ISIL elements have been killed and wounded as a result,” he said.

Iraqi forces are communicating with the people in Mosul, he said, to unify efforts and identify ISIL sites.
