A coalition airstrike killed a senior "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) leader and several of his aides in al-Hawijah, south-western Kirkuk province, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Wednesday (July 27th).
“International coalition fighter jets have launched a precision airstrike targeting an ISIL hideout in al-Hawijah, killing the so-called ISIL communications official and members of his security detail and destroying all their weapons,” the ministry said in a statement.
The operation was launched in co-ordination with Iraqi forces which provided the intelligence.
