Joint special forces arrested eight "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) elements during a security operation in northern Iraq, police in Kirkuk province said Thursday (July 7th).
“Special police and Asayish forces arrested eight ISIL elements in Banja neighbourhood, in north-eastern Kirkuk, based on the confessions of a defendant about a terrorist cell in town preparing to launch terrorist operations,” Kirkuk police spokesman Col. Salam al-Jaf told Mawtani.
“Iraqi forces seized extremely dangerous items and tools intended for use in executing planned terrorist operations", including a Toyota Corolla, two motorcycles, two explosives vests, two gas cylinders, a number of hand grenades and one Glock pistol, he said.
