ISIL claims deadly attack in Syria's al-Hasakeh

The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) on Wednesday (July 6th) claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing that killed at least 16 people in the Syrian city of al-Hasakeh, AFP reported.

The Tuesday evening blast struck outside a bakery in Salihiah, a Kurdish neighbourhood, where a large crowd had gathered as they prepared to break fast on the last day of Ramadan.

The attacker, who was on a motorbike, blew up his explosives belt amid the crowd, killing at least 16 people and wounding another 40, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Fifteen of them were still in critical condition, the Observatory said.

ISIL claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on social media.
