Iraqi forces kick off large-scale operation in Anbar to expel ISIL

A large-scale military operation was kicked off to expel the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) from villages south of Haditha and west of Heet, Anbar Operations Command announced Wednesday (July 6th).

“Joint Iraqi forces kicked off operations to clear and liberate 19 villages in Upper Euphrates areas, west of Anbar, including al-Dulab, al-Taliha, al-Maimariya and Jabbah, as well as other areas south of Haditha and west of Heet,” said Anbar Military Operations Commander Maj. Gen. Ismail al-Mahalawi.

“ISIL elements are present in those areas but they are besieged,” he said.

“The operation, which kicked off at dawn, is moving well. Achievements, such as hitting and retaking several ISIL strongholds there with the support of the army’s air component, were made,” he noted.
