Iraqi security forces on Tuesday (June 28th) repelled a suicide attack by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) on the borders of Karbala province, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
"The Federal Police’s 16th Brigade in the Middle Euphrates operations command repelled an attack by ISIL elements driving vehicles packed with explosives, and wearing explosive vests with medium-range weapons and hand grenades," the ministry said.
The group was trying to break through the defenses line and the trench under construction in the Karbala desert near al-Nakhib, the statement said.
"The Iraqi forces detonated the vehicles before they could reach their target and seized the attackers’ weapons and gear, without sustaining any losses," it said.
