ISIL blows up power transmission towers in Salaheddine

The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) blew up five power transmission towers in eastern Tikrit on Wednesday (June 22nd), causing a power outage in the area, a Salaheddine police official said.

"ISIL blew up five power transmission towers in Albu Khaddo, using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted near the towers," police spokesman Hassan al-Majmaie told Al-Shorfa.

This led to the power grid breaking down and homes being completely cut off from electricity, he said, adding that "acts of terrorism and sabotage hurt citizens in Ramadan as temperatures soar to more than 48 degrees Celsius."
