The Iraqi army has recaptured the village of Mohammed al-Musa, north of Tikrit, two days after a military operation was launched to drive out the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) from the area, an official with the Ministry of Defence said Wednesday (June 22nd).
"Iraqi forces have liberated the village of Mohammed al-Musa, its water plant and the northern road connecting the village with the city of Tikrit," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Al-Shorfa.
"The army managed to defuse a large network of mines and explosives inside and around the village and seized a number of weapons and equipment," Rasul said.
ISIL lost at least 20 gunmen in the operation, while the others have fled, he added.
