Iraqi troops find underground weapons cache near Fallujah

Iraqi forces on Tuesday (June 14th) destroyed an "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) underground cache near Fallujah and seized all of its contents, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said.

"Joint Iraqi forces have found an underground ISIL cache between al-Maameer and al-Etr, south-east of Fallujah," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Al-Shorfa.

The site contained various weapons, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), landmines, explosives, ammunition, treatment supplies such as bandages, as well as covers and a sleeping quarter for the group's elements, he said.

The cache was destroyed after moving its contents to a military site pending their disposal, he said.

"Investigations indicate that the site had been used by ISIL until recently before they lost control of the area and fled to the western parts of Fallujah," he added.
