Flyers demanding the departure of Tahrir al-Sham that single out one emir in particular -- a foreign fighter -- can be seen on walls and vehicles around the northern Syrian province of Idlib.

The papers call for the emir's departure from the region in a sarcastic tone, saying his "work contract has expired", Idlib city activist Hossam al-Idlibi told Diyaruna.

The choice of a foreign fighter was symbolic, in view of his oppressive actions against local residents and anyone who opposes Tahrir al-Sham, al-Idlibi said.

Youth in Idlib city have circulated these flyers and also have posted them in public places throughout the city, he said.

They bear the photo of a Tahrir al-Sham emir known as Abu Yousef al-Britani and address him in a mocking tone, saying his contract has expired and he must now end his mission "to support the Syrian people".

Idlib residents will no longer pay taxes to the alliance, the flyers state, pointing out that their money now lines the pockets of al-Britani and his ilk, who are living a life of luxury on the backs of the people they purport to be helping.

Sending a clear message

The flyers also call the nature of al-Britani's work into question, noting that he moves around with an entourage of fighters yet does not do any fighting himself, even though he supposedly came to fight.

They ridicule him as the "commander of the inghimasi [suicide] battalion", while highlighting his crimes against residents of the region who oppose Tahrir al-Sham’s actions and anyone who openly defies the alliance's orders.

According to al-Idlibi, the flyer has been well received by residents of Idlib city, and has been circulated widely and secretly among them.

"Youth have been pasting it on city walls," he added, noting that Idlib province in particular has recently witnessed a huge influx of foreign fighters from other parts of the country.

Hundreds of fighters opted to come to Idlib after abandoning other areas pursuant to the reconciliation agreements with the Syrian regime.
